Feast of the Seven Fishes

An Italian Holiday Tradition

What is the Feast of the Seven Fishes (Festa dei sette pesci)?
It’s a day everyone is Italian! It’s traditionally a meal of 7 (or more) different fishes served on La Vigilia di Natale the Christmas Eve Vigil of the Baby. Since Roman Catholics abstain from eating meat on the evening before Christmas, family gather to celebrate the birth of the Christ child and feast on a bounty of fish dishes. After all, what else would Italians do when they fast but feast!
